Tourist Information:
The medieval town of Waren , founded in 1230, counts 23.000 inhabitans and is the tourist center of the Mueritz-National-Park-Region.
This park is one of Mid-Europe last largest and intact living environments of sea- and fishing-eagle, storks, red- and fallow-deer and wild boars as well as more than 800 (!) butterfly and more than 40 dragonfly species.
20.000 Years ago a glacier transformed this foresty area to a pleasant and hilly lakeland district.
400 km of footpath offer ideal conditions for ecological tourism.
To people who like water sports the Mueritz Lake is known as the biggest German continental Lake with various creeks leading to Berlin and Hamburg. There are secluded bays and beaches everywhere. One can bicycle on specially designated paths.
In the town of Röbel (14 km) is a thermal spa located.

The starting point of all activities is the town of Waren which managed within a short time to develop a touristic infrastructure with excellent restaurants very nearby. This was aided by a considerable redevelopement of the town center, making Waren an attraction also for demanding tourists.
